Dead Stick Landing
Raymond adds:

I went up with him at Bolton one afternoon for a plane ride in a fore and after seating plane with a joy stick in both seats. I was about 10-11 years old at the time. I sat up front and Ed flew the plane from the back seat. I found that arrangement to be very disconcerting. Who drives a car from the back seat? Maybe from that description Ed can tell us the make of airplane we flew. It was a tail dragger type of craft where the nose pointed upwards on taxiing.

Bolton, as I remember had an unpaved runway. It was mostly lumps of grass or weeds on a dirt base. Needless to say, landings were a very bouncy affair and quite a surprise after a nice, smooth flight. It cured me of any interest in flying in light planes.
